NSFL Divisions and Conferences Explained

Teams are placed into divisions coresponding to their age group.  There are four conferences in each division (NFC East, NFC West, AFC East, and AFC West).  If a town has more than one team within a particular age group, each team will be placed into a different conference.  For example in the Pony division there will be four conferences and one team from that division may be placed into NFC East and the other team may be placed into the AFC west.

Standings

Each team within the league will be divided according to age groups (explained in about link) and split up into NFC and AFC Conferences. The peanut teams within the league do not have standings and therefore only play 8 games within the season (no playoffs). Every other team will play 9 games in the season and will be placed in the standings acording to their performance each week. Each team will be awarded points based on

  1. If a team wins a game 2 points are awarded to that team for the week.
  2. If a team has a bye for a week, two points are awarded to that team.
  3. If a team loses a game no points are awarded for the week.
  4. If a team Ties a game 1 point is given to each team that tied.

At the begining of each week (Tueday), teams are ranked according to their total score they earned within the season.  By the end of week 9, all scores are calculated and each team is placed into a playoff tier based on their score for the entire season.  In the event of a Tie, placement of each team into their playoff birth and home field advantage is determined by the following.

  1. Head-to-Head
  2. Most Wins
  3. Record against common opponents
  4. Flip of a coin (Home field advantage only)

The following is an example of standings.

Playoffs and the Super Bowl

Every team makes the first round of playoffs and are placed into a tier that they can compete. Once the scores are calculated for each team, tiers are formed based on placement in the standings. For example, if a team places in either 1st or 2nd place for the season, that team will be placed into a Tier 1 playoff spot. If a team places in 3rd or 4th place for the season, that team will be placed into a Tier 2 playoff spot.

From the standings example above you can see that Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, Copiague and North Babylon all made the Tier one playoffs for the NFC conference.  In addition, Oyster Bay will play Glen Cove and Copiague will play North Babylon White in the first round of playoffs.  Each game of the playoffs will be played on the field of the team that has home field advantage.  The winners of the first round playoffs then play against each other for their conference championships.

Once each conference has a winning team, those two teams play against each other in the Super Bowl.  The Super Bowl is then played at a nuetral field chosen by the league.  It is the only time during the playoffs that a home team would not play on their home field.  Each team that plays in the Super Bowl will recieve a trophy.  One for the winner of the Super Bowl and the other for the runner up.
