Welcome to Pony Blue Page 2014
Week 1 article and game summary
Eagles 39 Sayville 16
The Pony Blue team is competing in the Suffolk PAL Football League for the 2nd consecutive year. After an injury plagued year in 2013 which saw the team compete well and finish 9th out of 59 11 year old teams, the team is prepared to compete for the title in 2014. Suffolk thought so highly of the team that they are rated 4th out of the 34 teams competing in 2014. If the 1st game is any indication, it will be a big year for the Eagles.
They were pitted against 6th ranked Sayville in the opener. Led by a total team effort, the Eagles mauled the Golden Flashes 39-16 scoring all 6 times they had possession. The Eagles are blessed to have a stable of backs that are hard for any team to stop. Star halfbacks Kyle Gabrinowitz, Dion Kuinlan, Vinny Marino and Kevin Mouton lead the charge with Fullback Matt Fantry, TE Kevin Groom and QBs Danny Settino and Joe Foley also being forces to contend with. The offensive line of cornerstone tackle Dominic Zizzo, Brian Holder, Patrick Watson, Nick Griffin, Joey Horowitz, Trevor Yetkovsky and Christian Castles dominated the line of scrimmage and allowed the backs to have almost 400 yards rushing.
Kuinlan led the team with 150 yards rushing, one TD and one extra point. Fantry had over 100 yards and 3 TDs, Gabrinowitz, despite being injured, ran well and scored a TD and Marino also scored on a long TD run and conversion. Settino hit Mouton on a bootleg pass for another conversion after TD. Defensively, led by Luke Gensinger, Christian Kachadourian, Gaetano Re, Denis Downey, Maxim Safronov, Max Yahre and John Conway, held the high powered spread offense of Sayville at bay. Both Foley and Fantry recorded interceptions to lead the team effort. The team plays again on Saturday at 7:20pm at Bethpage High School against Patchogue/Medford in a battle of 1-0 teams. Come out and support many of the players that are starting their school ball careers under Ben Resnick at the Junior High School at the same time as playing for our PAL.
