Welcome to Midget Gold Page 2014

Week 1 article and game summary

Eagles 19 W Hempstead 7

On opening night of the season, under the lights at Bethpage HS, the Midget Gold team took on a huge West Hempstead team. After winning the coin toss and deferring the Eagles started on defense. No doubt this was the correct decision! Quickly the Bethpage defense neutralized West hempsted by not giving up a first down. The Eagles took over on offense, and wouldn't be denied. Following crushing blocks by our undersized offensive line, Brian Luzzi scored on a power over the left side. After falling just short on the extra point, the Eagles took a 6-0 lead. West Hempstead's offense was stymied all night. Great tackling by Dom Miano, Aiden Lauritsen and Anthony Cucurullo led the way. The d-line continued to pressure West Hempstead. Sal Re and Damon Finkler sliced through the opponents offensive line and harassed the QB consistently, while Jon Rizvi and Joey Tesler made big tackles down after down. The Eagles took over and quickly struck again. Luzzi scored his second TD of the night, on a 42 yd run following great blocking by Matt Tarabokija, Jacob Koretz, John Looney and Vinny Helfrich! Luke Galgano with the crucial extra point put the Eagles up 13-0. The Eagles were solid again on D. Getting huge tackles by Miano, Romo and Schappert. Bethpage took over again and would score their final TD of the night. Will McMullen on a toss around right end with help from Michael Corbo's blocking was untouched for the score. Extra point missed. 19-0. West Hempstead would end up scoring with the clock ticking down to make the final score 19-7. Great job by all the boys! Way to start the season!

Week 2 article and game summary

Eagles 12 Amityville 6

The Midget Gold continued it's winning ways against a formidable Amityville team! Winning the coin toss and deferring again turned out to be a great decision. On the opening drive Galgano sliced through the offensive line on a well timed blitz to strip sack the QB and recover the fumble. The Eagles took over again with a 30 yd drive, following great blocks by an offensive line that played much bigger than they look. Drive was capped off by a 10 yard scamper by Luzzi. Extra point missed. Eagles 6-0. Defense prevailed again not giving up a first down. Great pressure by McMorrow and "Tas" Ferdous keeping their QB on the run all day. Eagles took over on downs again. After an exciting 4th and 10 conversion on a 20 yard completion from Galgano to Corbo. The Eagles got stopped. On defense Luzzi exerted his will by stripping the ball from an Amityville running back. After 15 yd run from Luzzi, Miano scored on a run behind great blocking by Tarabokija and Koretz. Missed extra point. Eagles 12-0. Defense held again. Offense took over and drove the ball 40 yds following the blocks of Peter Sigalas and Damon Finkler. But were stopped. Amityville scored with a minute left in the game to make it a 12-6 final. Week 3 article and game summary

Eagles 20 Broad Channel 0

After making the long trek to Queens the Eagles kept marching on with another quality win over Broad Channel. Losing our first coin toss of the year, the Eagles ended up on defense, which is right where we want to be. The defense got right at it and took over on downs. Then the offense went to work. After Luzzi got 10 yds on a power with great blocking from Schappert, Lauritsen and Helfrich. The Eagles struck big. On a nice play fake to Luzzi, Galgano went up top to Corbo for a 30 yard Td pass and run. Great pass protection helped get it done. Missed extra point. Eagles 6-0. In the third quarter the eagles struck again with a 30 yd td run by Luzzi. Great lead blocking by Miano and McMullen all day. Extra point pass to Sigalas was good. Eagles 13-0. Defense was stout all day not giving up a first down all 2nd half. Led by the defensive line of Romo, Rizvi , Finkler and Mcmorrow. Great end play all day by Cucurullo and Corbo, containing Broad channels speedy attack. In the fourth quarter the Eagles would score again with a phenomenal 50 yd run by a shifty McMullen, that took all hope away from Broad channel. (His mother missed the run, but there will be more). Extra point pass from Galgano to Sigalas. Eagles 20-0. Great start for the Eagles at 3-0. Next week W Babylon at home 2pm.

Week 4 article and game summary

Eagles 6 West Babylon 20

Midget gold suffered its first loss of the season to a big and physical W Babylon team. They won the toss and decided to take the ball on offense. But our defense bent but didn't break. Led by our defensive line of Corbo, Cucurullo, Schappert, Looney, Re and Finkler, who were in the back field all day. The Eagles took over on downs. We drove the ball 70 yds for the Td around right end by Luzzi. It was a true Bethpage drive in every sense of the word. 12 plays 70 ids. Eagles 6-0. W Bab tied the game breaking a big run of their own. 6-6 score, until the 4th qtr. This is where W Babs size and physicality took its toll. They scored on a 45 yd pick 6 to take the lead for good. Although the midget gold team lost the game, the parents and coaches are very proud of the way they fought till the end. Next game Sunday, October 5th @ Wantagh 11:30AM.
